Implants and Crown Restoration

A dental implant is an artificial root made of metal which it is inserted into the jawbone to replace the root of the natural tooth. On this an artificial replacement tooth is attached. The implant acts as an anchor to hold the replacement tooth in place. When replacing several teeth or all of your teeth, a fixed bridge is anchored to your dental implants. The bridge is held firmly in place by dental implants on each side of the missing tooth or teeth.

In the above example is shown how a 3 units bridge is mounted having the support on the first and last tooth or implant abutment (like in our example).

Root Canal

Before

When the nerve of your tooth becomes infected, or your tooth is badly damaged,  a successful root canal treatment lets you keep the tooth rather than having to pull it out. Keeping your tooth helps to prevent your other teeth from drifting out of line and causing jaw problems. Saving a natural tooth avoids having to replace it with an artificial tooth.

The root canal treatment consist in removing the diseased pulp for replacing it with a material in order to keep the tooth, restore the tooth's  functionality and to avoid the extraction.

Veneer

Dental veneers (sometimes called porcelain veneers or dental porcelain laminates) are wafer-thin, custom-made shells of tooth-colored materials designed to cover the front surface of teeth either to improve the aesthetics of a tooth or to protect the tooth's surface from damage These shells are bonded to the front of the teeth changing their color, shape, size, or length. It is an aesthetic dental procedure with the highest aesthetic level result.

Extractions

The extraction is an oral surgical procedure to remove a tooth from the mouth, for reasons as advanced tooth decay, problematic wisdom tooth or for acquiring space for some orthodontic treatment.

Other reasons for removing the tooth is infection or risk of infection, periodontal disease or trauma.

Despite the fact that the permanent teeth were meant to last a lifetime, there are situations where the extraction is recommended.

During extractions injection of anesthesia is used but if the tooth is impacted, through surgery proceeding the gum and bone tissue that cover the tooth will be cut away and then, using forceps, the tooth will be and gently rocked back and forth to loosen it from the jaw bone and ligaments that hold it in place. Sometimes, a hard-to-pull tooth must be removed in pieces.

Oral cancer screening is the currently the best known guard in the fight against oral disease and oral cancer. The occurrence of mucosal abnormalities and pre-cancerous conditions is on the rise and oral health assessment is fast becoming a very important topic that dental health practitioners must tackle.

The oral health screening is the best way to isolate mucosal abnormalities and detect unhealthy tissue and inflammation. Abnormalities not normally visible in a general examination, can be cited with a VELscope® Vx system like in our picture in green.

VELscope™ technology is non-invasive and integrates four concepts: light, sophisticated filtering, natural tissue fluorophores, human optical and neural physiology, which isolates abnormal fluorescence patterns during the screening process.

Crown and Bridges

The crowns and most of the bridges are fixed prosthetic restorations which are not removable because are cemented onto existing tooth or implant.

Crown artificially recreates the crown of the tooth decayed. It can be simple, or associated with an inlay-core (false stump rooted in the root of the tooth by a pin, which will serve as an anchor for the crown).

The crown protects the tooth and it is not noticeable but requires cutting and shaping  the tooth.

A bridge is used to replace one or more missing teeth, relying on adjacent teeth- one on each side- and in some cases on multiple intermediate abutment teeth.  Advantages: can replace a missing tooth, using a fixed system (which does not remove every day for cleaning) but requires basically cutting and shaping of the abutment teeth.

Teeth whitening is the process of removing stains and discoloration from teeth through a bleaching process to make them look “whiter”.

The most popular whitening methods are laser whitening performed in a dentists chair and custom fitted trays at home with teeth whitening gel.

This is the most efficient, most recommended and less expensive as well.

For more efficiency after the laser whitening it is is still needed the tray and gel method any way.

Our clinic uses the custom fitted trays and whitening gel method with the major benefit that keep the whitening gel close to your teeth offering maximum opportunity to whiten and keep the gel away from your gum line, eliminating the possibility of gum irritation and restoring the white color from the childhood.

A mouthguard is a protective device for the mouth that covers the teeth and gums to prevent and reduce injury to the teeth, arches, lips and gums and is used in contact sports, as a treatment for bruxism and temporomandibular disorder, or as part of certain dental procedures, such as tooth bleaching.
